Steven Wilson

A former Placer County prep athlete, Steven Wilson is back home and serving the people of South Placer with up-to-date sports coverage, breaking news, human interest pieces and more. A native of Auburn, California, Steven earned a pair of degrees before returning home. He has a master's degree in Higher Education Administration from Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa in 2014, and he previously received his bachelor’s degree in communication from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2011.

Before accepting the Sports Editor role with the Press Tribune, Steven spent ten months with the Sacramento Kings as a Digital intern. He traveled with the team to Summer League, interviewed all the players, coaches and most of the ownership and spent a great deal of time on his laptop crafting stories for and the team's social media outlets. He earned experience in many programs to help the Kings Digital team soar.

Prior to the Kings internship and a two-year stint at Upper Iowa, where he worked with 12 NCAA Division II sports, Steven worked for the Santa Barbara News-Press covering up to ten different professional, collegiate and high school sports. He was also the beat writer for the UC Santa Barbara women’s basketball team during the 2011-12 season when they won the Big West Conference championship. During the summer of 2012, Steven spent a season as the Media Director for the Santa Barbara Breakers – a semi-pro basketball team headed by Curt Pickering. The Breakers won the West Coast Basketball League title that season.

As a student at UCSB, Steven gained his first insight into the newspaper business as he worked for the campus newspaper The Bottom Line as the Features editor and writer. He also broadcasted for the university radio station, and worked for the UCSB athletic department as a communication and video intern. While there, Steven created and produced a weekly sports preview and recap show for called Gaucho Prime Sports. He was also a radio broadcaster for the men’s basketball program and he covered men’s and women’s water polo exclusively.

Steven and his girlfriend Amy Maggard (Auburn, CA - UCSB Alum ’12) reside in Sacramento with their dog, Kona.
