As the football playoffs arrive, the single-elimination format takes a major role in the story each Friday night.

The question on our minds at Placer Sports revolves around the possibility of first-round upsets. Do you see any potential high seeds out there who might be ticketed for an early exit?

Our current poll question at seeks your thoughts on three specific games where teams in our coverage area enter as lower-seeded teams, but we inviite you to log on and share your thoughts about any game in the bracket where you see the chance of a top dog biting the dust.

Can defending section champion Whitney, a No. 5 seed in Division IV-A really be considered an underdog when it goes on the road to No. 4 Sonora? Can the Wildcats topple the Wildcats and set up a possible rematch with Lincoln in round two?

What about Colfax, the eighth seed in Division IV-B?  Any chance the Falcons go to unbeaten and top-seeded Modesto Christian and pull off a shocker?

No. 13 Woodcreek has a 4-6 record in Division II, but the Timberwolves have provided Del Campo with its only loss of the season and delivered one of its two losses to Del Oro. Will the stars align for the Timberwolves again when the travel to No. 4 Folsom Friday night?

Will the rain and wind that is in the forecast for Friday have any impact on these or other games? Can weather be an equalizer that leads to a series of upsets? Or will the presence of all of those turf fields negate that possibility?
