It was very windy, rainy and cold Sunday morning, but that did not deter the four members of the “Sophminators” relay team from Vista del Lago High School from getting up at 4:30 a.m. and taking their respective positions along the long course of the 2012 Californian International Marathon.

The weather was awful, the run challenging and the competition in relay plenty with no less than 809 teams lined up. Vista del Lago sophomores Weirui Xiao, Lucie Chevreuil, Maclean Ankhelyi and Ryan Andersen were neither deterred nor intimidated and ran the course in 3:22:12 with an average wet and cold pace of 7:45 a mile.

The Vista del Lago cross country team members placed 40th overall in relay and third in the high school coed category after placing second as “Freshminators” in 2011.

As the USPS says so eloquently, "Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night, stays these Vista XC runners from the swift completion of their appointed rounds."
