Jordan Bailey, Jaleon Reid and Daniel Rodriguez won Sierra Valley Conference wrestling titles over the weekend. In their home gym the three Vista del Lago wrestlers rose to the occasion to become the school’s first league champions. Bailey improved to 30-5 on the season by winning the 154-pound weight class; Reid is now 18-12 after winning the 137-pound class, while Rodriguez is 16-7 after claiming the 121-pound division. “Jordan continued his dominating senior campaign in winning his first league title,” Vista coach Frank Richmond said. “Jaleon went into the tournament as the No. 2 seed, but won decisively in the finals, while Daniel upset his opponent from Galt in the finals, avenging a loss from last year.” Austin Rompel (105), Troy Grossi (127), Chris Chovanec (142) and Jacob Sahagun (147) placed second in their weight classes. Heavyweight Brandon Kim finished third, while Austin Burke (114), Lucas Galgiani (162) and Baraa Uyoun (191) finished in fourth place. Those 11 wrestlers advance to this weekend’s divisional tournament at Union Mine High School. Bailey and Chovanec look to return to the Masters Tournament for the second straight year, while the rest will attempt to qualify for the first time. At the junior varsity level, Michael Gary, Alex Hamilton, John Caler, Ezra McCann, Jeremy Mull and Matt Luzader won league titles, while Mark LePage, Mitch Jones and James Lopez had second-place finishes. Robbie Stapp placed third, while Gary Silva finished fourth.
