Vista needs to play its best for success in playoffsBy: Staff Report
Vista del Lago’s varsity girls’ basketball team earned the number 11 seed in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III playoffs and will travel to sixth-seeded Modesto Christian (19-8) Tuesday for a first-round match-up.
The Eagles have the potential to be a bit better than their 15-12 record indicates, while Modesto Christian is beatable, as their eight losses show. Vista del Lago, however, will likely have to play a very strong game to pull the upset.
The Crusaders possess a balanced scoring attack with three players averaging double-digits and a fourth scoring nine points a game. They average more assists and steals per game and have more than 150 offensive rebounds on the season than do the Eagles.
Vista will have to box out and rebound the basketball, limit turnovers and hit their shots to have a chance to win. More importantly, playing with high energy and effort is always the key to success for the Eagles. It can be done, but the Eagles will have to play much better than they did in the final three regular season games.
