Vista del Lago’s varsity girls’ cross country team dominated the Sierra Valley Conference meet held on Oct. 2 at Granite Regional Park. Vista’s top-five runners placed in the top-eight spots, including Madeleine Ankhelyi and Clare Carroll, who ran first and second, respectively, in 18 minutes, 23 seconds and 19:55. Alayna Gocke placed fourth in 20:50, followed by Michaela Reynolds in sixth at 20:55 and Megan Howell in eighth in 21:56. Vista scored 21 points, well in front of runner-up El Dorado, who finished in second with 42 points. The positions were reversed in the varsity boys’ race, as the Cougars placed first with 31 points, while Vista scored 55. Zach Jaeger and Kyle Chun led the team, placing second and third place, respectively. Jaeger finished his run in 16:41, while Chun’s time was 16:50. Aaron Schiek, Andrew Schiek and Jeff Reinking rounded out the scorers with times of (18:30, 18:47 and 18:56), respectively. The freshman-sophomore girls also placed first in the meet, finishing one point ahead of El Dorado. Weirui Xiao led the team by placing third in 14:54. Lucie Chevreuil placed fifth in 15:39 with teammate Hannah Montague right behind in sixth place in 16:17. Sarah Downs (10th, 17:02) and Devrina Chidambaram (15th, 18:08) rounded out the scorers. Ryan Von Chance led the freshman-sophomore boys to a third-place finish behind El Dorado and Cosumnes Oaks. Von Chance placed eighth in 13:31, followed by Niko Guevara (19th, 14:28), Vincent Chevreuil (21st, 14:38), Ryan Anderson (23rd, 14:49) and Cooper Rode (24th, 14:52).
