Vista del Lago’s freshman football team capped off a perfect season Thursday with a 28-0 win over El Dorado. The Eagles finished the year with a 10-0 record and were also Sierra Valley Conference champions. Bradley Rittenhouse scored two touchdowns against the Cougars, once on an 11-yard run and another on a 60-yard punt return. Ryan Wert threw a touchdown pass to Tyler Rhee and Nick Brown also intercepted a pass and returned it for a score, one of three turnovers forced by the defense. The Eagle defense also stopped the Cougars from scoring twice in the red zone. Tyler Steinlein, Brian Parker, Jordan Torres and Michael McMahon led the defense with hard hits all night long. “It was by far our best played game of the season,” Vista coach Lance Moore said. “The boys knew what they were playing for and rose to the occasion. It was a hostile environment and the weather conditions were miserable. With the bad weather, we were forced to run much more than usual and the offensive line took it upon themselves to make sure we had success. They dominated El Dorado's defensive line. “I could not be more proud of this group of kids. We faced a multitude of injuries all season and every week a couple of guys stepped up and contributed. There success this season was based on teamwork and a belief in each other. I look forward to seeing them have continued success in the coming years.”
