Vista cross country teams run at Crystal Springs Invite

Vista del Lago’s cross country team competed in the Crystal Springs Cross Country Invitational on Saturday with the varsity girls placing second. The Eagles scored 85 points, finishing 26 points behind winner Clovis West. Madeleine Ankhelyi and Clare Carroll posted top-10 finishes, as Ankhelyi placed second in 17 minutes, 18.3 seconds, while Carroll finished about one minute behind (18:19.5) in sixth place. Sierra Jaeger and Alayna Gocke also had strong runs, placing in the top-20. Jaeger finished the race in 18:51.7 to place 12th, while Gocke ran 17th in 19:20.9. Megan Howell and Michaela Reynolds finished within one second of another in a battle to be Vista’s final scorer. Howell placed 57th in 20:46.4 with Reynolds exactly one second behind in 59th place. Weirui Xiao also ran for the Eagles and placed 63rd in 21:10.5. The varsity boys’ placed eighth out of 21teams with Zach Jaeger leading the way with a third-place finish. Jaeger finished the race in 15:54.7, while Kyle Chun placed 13th in 16:29.7. Andrew Schiek placed 41st in 17:11, followed by Aaron Schiek (77th, 18:03.3) and Jeff Reinking (80th, 18:11.0). Lucie Chevreuil led the freshman-sophomore girls to an 11th-place finish, posting the team’s top time of 21:34.8 to place 25th overall. Hannah Montague placed 46th in 23:04.4 with teammates Sarah Downs and Lexie Zimny following. Downs placed 62nd in 24:15, and Zimny ran 76th in 24:56.3. Devrina Chidambaram and Alex Vareljian rounded out the team, Chidambaram placing 100th in 26:07.6 and Vareljian finishing in 27:10.4 in 110th place. The freshman boys earned an eighth-place finish out of 17 teams with Ryan von Chance placing 13th in 18:07.6. Niko Guevara and Vincent Chevreuil finished in the top 100, as Guevara ran 58th in 19:30.9 and Chevreuil placed 61st in 19:38.6 Cooper Rode (107th, 20:50.5), Daniel Baquero (113th, 20:56.9), Justin Prahm (139th, 21:47.2) and Leo Merle (172nd, 24:32.2) rounded out the squad. Christian Guevara (74th, 19:12.2) and Paul Fangon (178th, 22:22.7) ran in the junior varsity race, while Ryan Andersen (104th, 20:25), Maclean Ankhelyi (140th, 21:24.9), Cody Cox (170th, 22:54.8) and Chris Vonderwerth (197th, 26:51.6) ran in the sophomore race for the Eagles.
