As County Supervisor, I am reminded daily of the importance of the office of the sheriff. The position requires leadership, integrity, and a vision for moving the department forward. Capt. Scott Jones is the only candidate for Sacramento County Sheriff who truly embodies these characteristics. With more than 21 years with the Sheriff’s Department, Jones’ experience ranges from patrol to managing key units within the department. He led the county’s main jail out of the dark days of abuse and lawsuits to make it a shining example for others to follow. Jones gave the citizens of Sacramento County a jail system they can trust, improving training and increasing transparency by opening the jail to the media and others. The costs were negligible, the savings in lawsuit settlements were enormous, and the results are extraordinary. Jones will bring this leadership style and creativity to office of the Sheriff by collaborating with other law enforcement agencies to combine non-daily services such as SWAT, K-9 and air support, providing taxpayers with more bang for their buck. This will free up resources to deal with the budget crisis and put more officers on the streets. Jones’ vision has earned him the support of Sheriff John McGinness, former Congressman Doug Ose, every municipal police chief in the county, the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, local chambers of commerce and a bipartisan group of local elected officials. I’m proud to support Scott Jones for sheriff. Scott is a compelling leader with the experience and commitment to work with the Board of Supervisors to lead the Sheriff’s Department through tough times. I trust him to keep the county’s neighborhoods, businesses and families safe. Roberta MacGlashan, Sacramento County supervisor
