Scheuer leads Folsom at league cross country meet

Sam Scheuer led the Folsom High varsity boys’ to a third-place finish at Saturday’s Delta River League cross country championships at Willow Hills.

Scheuer came within one second of winning the race, posting a 14-second personal-best time of 16 minutes, 28 seconds. Scheuer and teammate Jacob Goodwin, who placed eighth in 16:51, earned all-league honors. Goodwin’s time was his best on the course by 80 seconds.

Teammate Vinnie Morin just missed all-league honors by placing 11th with his best time by 48 seconds of 17:01. Jon Barrows and Cristiano Bobiles rounded out the scorers for the Bulldogs, Barrows placing 22nd in 17:44 and Bobiles finished 29th in 18:17. Barrows posted a seven-second personal-best record, while Bobiles’ time was 43 seconds faster than his previous best.

Folsom scored 72 points, two back of Jesuit and only four behind Oak Ridge.

Folsom had eight other runners participate, including David Hanson (18:17), Tim Scott (18:48), Alex Blake (19:19), Spencer Buelna (19:41), Jordan Haines (20:27), Blake Shaw (20:33), Peter Merrill (20:56) and Jake Stern (21:34). Merrill’s time was his best by two minutes, while Hanson, Scott, Blake and Stern had best times by at least 46 seconds.

Vivian Lam was Folsom’s only all-league performer for the varsity girls, as she placed eighth in 19:25. Also running for the girls, who finished sixth overall, included Ashley Anderson (44th, 25:02), Jenn Rees (46th, 25:18), Kaeti Park (58th, 27:37), Erin Johl (60th, 27:42) and Taylor Pantiga (61st, 30:02).

The freshman-sophomore girls finished three points behind St. Francis and in second place. Folsom’s Sarah Anderson won the race with a time of 13:25, her best time by 32 seconds. Muna Alhamad and Katie Bock followed in third and fifth place in 13:45 and 13:54, respectively. Lindsey Bailey placed 12th in 14:41, while Michel Hanson ran 16th in 14:59. Catherin Kim (17:11) and Abbi Johnson (18:00) also ran for the Lady Bulldogs.

The freshman-sophomore boys placed third behind Oak Ridge and Sheldon. Leading the way was Logan Kohne, who placed third in 11:59. John Kretschmann ran seventh in 12:13 and Greg Aitken finished 15th in 12:31. Wes Dewitt and Matt Hopper rounded out the scorers with Dewitt placing 17th in 12:33 and Hoper finishing 29th in 13:07.

Parker Nelson (13:20), Gerardo Flores (13:31), Andrew Reed (13:56), Matt Merrill (14:15), Owen Collins (15:04) and Kyle Cardenas (15:09) rounded out the Folsom runners.
