Life in the Delta River League is tough. Folsom High’s varsity softball team has yet to win a league game, as they enter spring break with a 0-5 record. Coming off a three-game sweep during the Bulldog Classic on April 9, the Lady Bulldogs started last week feeling pretty good, but ended with a 9-0 loss to Oak Ridge on Friday, preceded by a 3-1 loss against Pleasant Grove on April 13. Folsom didn’t face Pleasant Grove’s ace pitcher, Ally Carda, and was able to make the game against the Eagles a close one. The Lady Bulldogs managed five hits against Celina Matthias, two coming from Alex Preddy and one each by Nicole Clark, Vronica Idrogo and Kaylan Jackson. Clark scored Folsom’s only run on Idrogo’s RBI. Preddy also pitched a strong game for Folsom, allowing two earned runs on six hits, while striking out five. “Pleasant Grove threw their younger pitcher and we were able to get on base and that gave us some momentum and helped the girls keep their effort up,” Folsom assistant coach Chelsea Camous said. “Alex pitched a great game and our defense was pretty solid. We learned that as long as our offense is productive we can play stay with teams.” The offense, however, did little against Oak Ridge on Friday, managing only a single by Preddy in a 9-0 loss in a game that served as a fundraiser for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. “We just told the team to put that loss behind them and rest during spring break and come back ready to play hard and finish the season,” Camous said. “It was an incredible turnout for the game and it was nice to be apart of it. It was for a great cause.”
