Troy Grossi and CJ Moore led Vista del Lago’s wrestling team at the Armijo Invitational over the weekend. Grossi, competing at 138 pounds for the first time this season, won four hard-fought matches to win the weight class. He entered the tournament ranked sixth in the Sac-Joaquin Section in the 145-pound weight class. Moore placed third at 170 pounds. “I was very proud of my wrestlers’ performances,” Vista coach Frank Richmond said. “Troy wrested tough competition in every round. He’s getting over some illness and not felling 100 percent, but he showed tremendous heart, as he had to come back and win every match in the last minute and in some cases, the last seconds. In one match he scored 10 points in the last 30 seconds.” Moore also had a great day, as all four of his wins came by pin. Vista brought nine wrestlers to the tournament, which featured 24 teams. Seven Vista wrestlers finished in the top-six, including Ben Johnson (145), Jacob Sahagun (152), Brandon Johnson (182), Alex King (220) and Clayton Wagner (195).
