Assemblyman Ted Gaines, R-Roseville, announced last week that he has been appointed by Assembly Republican Leader Mike Villines to serve as Assistant Republican Leader for the 2008-10 legislative session. Assistant leaders in the State Assembly Republican Caucus play a role in shaping policies, represent the leader, advocate policy, and help to set a schedule of legislative priorities. “My new leadership position is important for our community, because it means I will have a seat at the decision-making table as issues that are important for Northern California – like budget reform, fire protection and job creation – are discussed,” Gaines said. Assistant Republican Leaders play an integral role in furthering the priorities and interests of the Assembly, according to Gaines. Gaines was a member of the Assembly Republican leadership in the previous legislative session, having served as vice chair of the Assembly Banking and Finance Committee, and as Republican Whip. “Ted Gaines is a strong voice for our party, and I look forward to continuing to benefit from Ted’s strong leadership as we work together to demand greater government accountability and promote more opportunities for working families,” Villines said. – Roger Phelps, The Telegraph
