Folsom High’s varsity wrestling team defended their title Saturday in the Jailbreak Duals, while the junior varsity team placed second to Vacaville Friday.
The Bulldogs cruised to the championship, easily beating Corning, 75-0, Casa Grande, 58-12, Bear River, 54-18 and College Park, 59-17, before crunching Oak Ridge in the championship match, 53-23, in their closest match of the day.
The Bulldogs had six wrestlers make the all-tournament team: Carlos Alvarez (106), Curtis Booth (113), Jerry Garrido (120), Mason Koshiyama (138), Lorenzo De La Riva (145) and Nick Fiegener (160), while three other wrestlers also finished 5-0 on the day, including Jordan Denny (126), Jason Bergquist (132) and Connor Watson (152).
The JV squad finished the day with a 4-1 record, as did Vacaville and Northgate with Vacaville taking the title because of point differential. Folsom defeated Cosumnes Oaks, 59-18, Northgate, 43-35, Napa, 52-30 and Franklin 39-31, before losing to Vacaville in the finals, 38-31.
Folsom’s junior varsity wrestlers finishing unbeaten on the day included Alder Moreno (113), Eric Helm (145), Eli Diaz (152) and Austin Badger (220).
This week the varsity wrestlers travel to Reno for the Sierra Nevada Classic, where the Bulldogs finished second out of 95 teams last year. Another group of wrestlers will head to the Natomas Invitational.
