The Folsom United junior varsity lacrosse team is playing in the Northern California State Championship game at 2 p.m. Saturday at Treasure Island. Folsom will play top-seeded and undefeated Chico for the Nor Cal championship, a team that defeated Folsom earlier in the season. The United enters the game with a 14-game win streak. Under the Friday night lights of Livermore Park, the United defeated Pleasant Grove, 10-3 in the semifinal matchup. The offense moved the ball well with eight assists. As has been the trademark of the team, they were sound defensively with strong play from Paulo Garcia, Landon Feltsen and Caleb Patterson, while Chris Cudney continued his outstanding play in goal. Offensively, Daniel Whitfield scored twice and also assisted on a pair of goals. Nathan Whitfield also scored twice and had three assists. Mikhail Mabourakh picked a good game to get hot, scoring two goals on cuts to the net, while Garrett Slater added one goal and one assist, as did Tim Bonnington, who also won six faceoffs. Keegan Banks and Kyle Guilliams had one goal each, while Cole Thompson added an assist. ?I am proud of what these young men have accomplished,? Coach Ron Whitfield said. ?The way they came together as a team, with character and resolve to improve together, is what makes me so pleased. They have grown as a team, and supported each other and are individually better for it.?
