Folsom Rodeo grand marshal turns 103

Eleanor Cavitt is celebrating her birthday Aug. 25. She is turning 103 years old. Cavitt was born Aug. 25, 1908 in Sacramento. She was born to an immigrant German family who settled in Sacramento in 1895. The children learned English when they entered school. She married James Henry Cavitt, a local cattleman. She had three children — Betty Cavitt, Jessica Cavitt Bradley (both deceased) and Dorothee Cavitt Mull, who resides in Sacramento. All the children graduated from Folsom schools. Eleanor was active in the Native Daughters of the Golden West, the History Museum, the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the Folsom Rodeo. She was grand marshal of the rodeo many times, according to her daughter. She was also involved in the Folsom Chamber of Commerce. Eleanor has six grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. ~ Staff report
