The Folsom Lake College men's golf team won their second consecutive Big 8 Conference Tournament Tuesday under miserably cold and windy conditions at Teal Bend Golf Course in Sacramento. The Falcons' score of 388 was 14 strokes ahead of second place Delta College and 17 ahead of defending conference champion Santa Rosa. Cole Zarecky and Kevin Rose led the Falcons with identical rounds of 75. Luke Ivazian shot a 76, followed by Joel Slak (80), Tanner Lichty (82) and Riley Svikhart (90). The win gave the Falcons a six-point lead in the Big 8 standings over Santa Rosa, 28-22. Delta sits in third place with 20 points. The Falcons play in the third Big 8 Conference Tournament on March 8 at Yolo Flyers Golf Club in Woodland. The Falcon men’s and women’s tennis teams lost to Diablo Valley College on Tuesday by scores of 7-2 and 9-0, respectively. Nick Lord was a double winner for the Falcons, winning 6-1, 6-2 in singles and combining with Phillip Wingett to win 8-6 in doubles. The women are still feeling the loss of injured players, as No. 1 Jordyn Germoles has been out all year with a wrist injury and looks doubtful to play at all; No. 2 Kristina Bodeman has been a trooper, as she has tried to play on a severely sprained ankle but clearly is nowhere near healthy, No. 3 Sherry Lee has yet to play a match as she awaits medical clearance, No. 4 Maricela Medina is dealing with a bad back and No. 6 Hannah Barbaria has been playing with a broken bone in her wrist. Needless to say, it has been a frustrating year for Coach Kellie Diehl. The tennis teams will host Santa Rosa on Friday at Broadstone Racquet Club at 1 p.m.
