The Folsom Lake College men’s golf team moved into first place in the Big 8 Conference by placing second in Thursday’s Big 8 Tournament No. 9 at Eagle Vines Golf Club in Napa. Cole Zarecky led the Falcons, by shooting a one-over-par 73. Folsom Lake finished with a 391, three behind Butte, and five strokes in front of Santa Rosa, which gives the Falcons a one-point lead over Santa Rosa with three tournaments remaining. Tom Crowther finished his round in 78 strokes, while Steve Mesich shot a 79. James Millward (80), Luke Ivazian (81) and Jake Kroeker (84) rounded out the scoring for the Falcons. “The boys responded when they had to,” Folsom coach Barry Zarecky said. “Knowing we were without our number two player, they really stepped up.” The team’s overall record now stands at 55-15. The Falcons will play in one tournament during spring break, on Tuesday at Spring Creek Country Club near Modesto. The following week they will host Big 8 Tournament No. 11 on Tuesday April 26 at Rancho Murieta Country Club.
