The Folsom Force, an under-10 boys’ soccer team, are the first District 6 champions, as they won the inaugural District Cup Tournament offered to teams in the under-10 division. The Force won the championship by defeating the Rocklin Red Devils, 2-0, on Dec. 13. The win avenged the Force’s only loss during the regular season. In the championship game the Force came out determined not to have a repeat of their last match with the Red Devils. With the Force controlling the pace of play, Austyn Ciampa took a corner kick at the five-minute mark and placed the ball just inside the back post and into the net for a 1-0 lead. The defense of Trevor Altman at sweeper, Lukas Avdalovic and Trevor Darrow as backs, with Jackson LaCasse in goal stopped the Red Devils’ attack time after time and gave the ball back the Force attackers. Evan Stafford, Troy Calderara and Chase Guerrero played key roles in winning the midfield battles with strong tackles and speed. At the start of the second half with a strong wind in their face, forwards Anthony Lawson and Lucca Galvao put consistent pressure on the Red Devils’ defense. Then with about 15 minutes left to play Spencer Hoyle made one of his precise passes to Logan Clark, who stuffed the ball into the back of the net for a 2-0 Force win and the championship. The Force entered District Cup play on Dec. 6, as the top seed after compiling a 9-1 record with 35 goals for and only nine goals against during the season. The Force opened the tournament with a 6-1 win over the Fair Oaks Revolution, and then defeated the Gold Country United Rapids, 5-0, the El Dorado Hills Avengers, 4-0 and finally the Prospector Galaxy, 4-1, to reach the championship game. Members of the team include Trevor Altman, Lukas Avdalovic, Troy Calderara, Austyn Ciampa, Logan Clark, Trevor Darrow, Lucca Galvao, Chase Guerrero, Spencer Hoyle, Jackson LaCasse, Anthony Lawson and Evan Stafford.
