Folsom boys place fourth at Granite Regional Park

A fourth-place finish didn’t damper the solid performance Folsom High’s varsity boys’ cross country team put on during the first Delta River League meet on Wednesday at Granite Regional Park. Sammy Scheuer, Aaron Burkhead and Ryley Hoffman posted the three fastest times by a Folsom runner on the course and as the team the Bulldogs had 10 of the fastest 13 times ever run by a Folsom runner. Folsom finished fourth behind Pleasant Grove, Oak Ridge and Jesuit. Scheuer ran seventh to lead the Bulldogs, finishing in 16 minutes, 22 seconds. Burkhead placed 10th in 16:28 and he was followed by Ryley Hoffman (19th, 16:43) Jon Barrows (24th, 16:58) and David Hanson (25th, 17:09). Scheuer and Barrows had personal-best times by more than 20 seconds, while Burkhead and Hoffman posted times more than a minute faster than their previous bests. Austin Bailey (31st, 17:14) and Phil West (32nd, 17:15) rounded out Folsom’s top-seven runners. Also running for the Bulldogs included Mike Kinoshita (36th, 17:24), Jake Goodwin (38th, 17:34), Blake Shaw (42nd, 18:01), Cristiano Bobiles (50th, 18:42), Spencer Buelna (57th, 18:56), Justin Monnot (84th, 20:45) and Zack Lasker (102nd, 24:33). Vivian Lam posted the fastest time for the varsity girls, as she placed 21st in 19:58. Lisa Hoang ran 61st in 25:56. At the freshman-sophomore level, the Folsom boys placed fifth with Tim Scott leading the way with a 19th-place finish in 13:31. Wes Dewitt took 21st in 13:34 with Peter Merrill one second back in 23rd place. John Kretschmann ran 26th in 13:38 followed by Jordan Denny (43rd, 14:47), Jim Broff (50th, 15:19), Matt Merrill (51st, 15:21) and Will Randall (66th, 19:22). Katie Bock was the top finisher for the girls as she placed sixth in 14:56. Muna Alhamad ran 20th in 15:41, while Ashley Anderson (30th, 16:54) and Jenn Rees (36th, 17:49) rounded out the squad.
