Folsom athletes compete at Clarke Massey Relays and Hornet Invite

Folsom High track and field athletes competed at two venues over the weekend with a contingent at the Clarke Massey Relays at Cordova High and another group at the Hornet Invite at Sac State.

The highlight at Sac State came from Austin Carter, who won the 300 hurdles in 40.13 seconds, just nine-hundredths of a second off the school record. Carter also placed second in the 100 hurdles in 15.78.

Mike Kinoshita ran the 1,500 meters and placed 26th with a personal-best time of 4:23.

At the Clarke Massey Relays, the 4x800-meter team of Vinnie Morin, Sam Scheuer, Cristiano Bobiles and Jake Goodwin led from start to finish and posted a time of 8:36.96.

Blake Shaw replaced Bobiles in the distance medley relay and the foursome posted a time of 11:18.6, good enough to place fourth.

Peter Merrill and Tim Scott finished second in the pole vault with a combined distance of 21 feet.

Vivian Lam led the varsity girls, as she won the 3,200 in 11:39, a personal-best record for Lam by 15 seconds.

A young distance medley team consisting of two sophomores and two freshmen: Sarah Anderson, Michelle Hanson, Lindsey Bailey and Muna Alhamad, set a freshman-sophomore school record with a time of 13:57, two minutes faster than the previous best time. The same four girls placed sixth in the 4x800-meter relay.

The freshman-sophomore boys’ 4x800-meter relay team of John Kretschman, Logan Kohne, Travis Vo and Matt Hopper placed fifth, while the “B” team of Parker Nelson, Anuj Deshpondo, Owen Collins and Riley Teodoro ran 10th.

Garrick Johnson placed second in the long jump (19’2”), while Berkay Besaran placed fourth in the high jump (5’2”).
