Two days after tying for the lead in the Big 8 Conference, Folsom Lake College’s golf team moved into first place by winning the eighth conference tournament on Thursday at Swenson Golf Club in Stockton. The Falcons defeated second-place Santa Rosa, shooting a 382 to their 383 to win. There are four conference tournaments remaining, the next two in Santa Rosa at Windsor Golf Club on Tuesday and at Oakmont Golf Club on April 19. The two tournament wins this week brought the Falcons from four points behind to two points in front of Santa Rosa, 102-100. The weather was a contributing factor during Thursday’s tournament, as golfers dealt with intermittent rain and high winds. The last three foursomes were forced to abandon their round due to a lightning storm. Luke Ivazian and Cole Zarecky led the Falcons by shooting 74 and 75, respectively, while Joel Slak and Kevin Rose finished in 76 strokes. Nick Fowler carded an 81, while Riley Svikhart completed his round in 87 strokes. “The guys are really playing well,” Folsom Lake coach Barry Zarecky said. “These next two weeks should be very exciting.”
