The Folsom Lake College men’s golf team shot one of their better rounds of the season Thursday at Alister MacKenzie Golf Course in Sacramento, but still came up short against Big 8 rival Santa Rosa. The Falcons shot a team score 376 to take second, 10 strokes behind Santa Rosa. Redshirt freshman Kevin Rose led the scoring for Folsom Lake with a 72, his lowest round of the season. “Our top-four players really played well,” commented coach Barry Zarecky. “We really need five and six to step up to have a chance against Santa Rosa.” The two teams are now tied atop the Big 8 Conference standings with seven tournaments remaining. Joel Slak and Luke Ivazian followed Rose with 73s, while Cole Zarecky finished in 74 strokes. Riley Svikhart ended his round with an 84, while Tanner Lichty was a stroke behind with an 85. The only competitive action for the Falcons next week is a practice match at Rancho Murieta on March 22. Big 8 Conference competition will resume on March 27 at Chardonnay Golf Club in Napa.
