A big 10-0 win over El Dorado Friday set Vista del Lago’s baseball team up for Monday’s showdown with the Cougars.

The winner of Monday’s game would take the season series, two games to one, and have a leg up in the race to a Sierra Valley Conference championship.

Having lost to the Cougars 10-8 March 15, the Eagles needed to win Friday and did behind the pitching of Mike Majeski, who allowed three hits and struck out two in the five-inning game. He also did the job at the plate with two hits, including a triple, and three RBIs. Andrew Schantz and Zach Stolarow each had two hits, while Schantz and Tyler Kaim knocked in a pair of runs.

“The last time we played our pitching was messed up so this one was really big,” Vista coach Scott Seffens said. “We were tied going into Friday (8-2) so now we’ve got to focus on Monday and take two-out-of-three. Friday’s win was huge; especially after losing to River City. We were pretty determined to get the win. We showed how good we can be.”

The Eagles lost to River City, 9-8, April 10, two days after beating the Raiders, 6-3, with a five-run seventh inning. Nick Rametta and Ryan Kuzinich each had two hits, while Nick Schumacher drove in three runs in the win. Kevin Gough, Rametta and Kuzinich also had RBIs.
