These girls have got it.

Vista del Lago’s varsity soccer team rolled to its fifth straight win Tuesday, defeating River City 3-0.

Freshman Caitlin Bader’s goal proved the game winner in the 26th; however, Lauren Musket and Chayney Mata padded the lead in the 38th and the 76th, respectively. In their last five Sierra Valley Conference matches, the Eagles own an 18-2 goal differential and comfortably hold top position.

Shots were in Vista’s favor both halves, splitting 16 total shots evenly between them. Eleven of those shots were on frame and all of them were dominant over River City’s three total shots.

“I thought in this game we worked really well together moving off the ball and opening up for each other, and we finished well today. Better than last game,” said Musket.

Janae Gonzalez squeaked out a 2-1 win at league rival, and second-place contender, Cosumnes Oaks (5-1-2) last Thursday. The win preserved Vista’s 7-0-2 record, including the win over River City.

Mata assisted Bader’s goal before finding a lane and driving a low left-footed strike into goal. River City’s only shot on goal in the half shortly followed.

“This win is very important in terms of winning league,” said Musket. “Our defense is really strong in the last few games, so if we work on moving outside and in, and crossing, I think we’ll be good.”

Their upcoming match against Liberty Ranch (6-1-1) on Thursday will likely be the most competitive of the Eagles’ last three SVC matches.

They play at Liberty Ranch on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Sandwiched between the last two games against Galt (1-7-0) and El Dorado (0-9-0) is the Crosstown Cup against Folsom on Saturday, April 27.
