First-year volleyball coach Aaron DeKalb isn’t much older than the players that he coaches, but he knows just what they need. After watching his team lose to Vista in four games on Friday night, DeKalb, 19, a 2009 graduate of Union Mine High School, said his team needs to play together. “We’ve got a bunch of seniors with senioritis right now,” DeKalb said. “My team needs to come together as a team and play together. They needed to be bonded.” DeKalb has a roster of 12 players, nine of which are seniors. The Bulldogs have experience, including seven players, seniors Mike Hamilton, Malcolm Lockett, Derek O’Shaughnessy, Cameron Riddle and Jackson Whitlow and underclassmen Hunter Horwath and Richard Johnson, who play club ball. “Our goal is to make the playoffs and do well there,” DeKalb said. “We can do that if we come together as a team.” Other seniors on the team include Jordan Hampton, Dmitri Kirilyuk, Andrew Nagel and Eric Vavrinyuk. Tony Kirilyuk is the team’s other underclassman.
