Bailey, Rodriguez lead Vista matmen

Despite missing three starters from the lineup, Vista del Lago’s wrestling team won two matches, lost two and tied another in the Ponderosa Duals on Friday. Jordan Bailey led the way as he won all five of his matches, four by fall, while Daniel Rodriguez also won five matches with three pins. Both were named to the all-tournament team. Bailey is off to an 8-0 start to the season, while Rodriguez is 6-0. Austin Rompel and CJ Moore won four of five matches during the tournament, as the Eagles defeated El Dorado, 48-36 and Mesa Verde, 53-24, tied Woodcreek at 40, and lost to Will C. Wood, 40-28 and Ponderosa Grey, 43-33. At the junior varsity level, the Eagles won four of five matches, losing only to host Ponderosa, 37-34. Vista defeated Roseville, 66-6, Bret Harte, 48-25, Lincoln, 42-21 and Pleasant Grove, 42-34. Evan Shelley, Michael Gary and Mitch Jones finished undefeated on the day, Shelley and Gary posting 5-0 records with two pins, while Jones pinned all four of his opponents. Ezra McCann and Jeremy Mull won four of five matches with four pins, while Baraa Uyoun went 4-1 with three pins and Robert Stapp won three of four matches with three pins.
