Folsom High’s tennis team played Rocklin tough, but ended up falling to the Thunder in the opening Sierra Foothill League match of the season on Tuesday, 7-2.
Folsom picked up wins at No. 5 and 6 singles, as Faith Cyphert won a three-setter and Lucia Pulgar handled her business in straight sets. After dropping the first set 6-2, Cyphert rebounded to take the next two, 6-2, 6-4. Playing at No. 6 singles, Pulgar won her match 6-4, 6-3.
The Bulldogs’ Annamaria Crone and Ava Brown played their opponents tough at the top of the ladder as well. At No. 1 Crone lost a hard-fought match, 6-3, 7-6 (3), while Brown won her first set at No. 2, 6-4, but then lost the next two, 6-3, 6-1.
“The girls played excellent,” Folsom coach Rich Klingensmith said. “We grabbed two of the singles lines and almost had two addition singles wins. It was so close; now it’s back to courts for more training.”
Before the Bulldogs can practice, they play host to Vista del Lago at 4 p.m. today.
