EDH Athlete of the Week: Joe Carroll

Joe Carroll was the only 11-year-old on the El Dorado Hills Major All-Star team, but that didn’t stop him from performing.

Carroll was one of the team’s top players, if not the best, during the District, Section and Nor-Cal tournaments. In 13 games playing outfield, third base, shortstop and pitcher, Carroll was the team’s leadoff hitter in a majority of the games and compiled a .644 batting average. He had 29 hits, including nine home runs, scored 25 runs and drove in 26. His on base percentage was a staggering .692.

“Joe fulfilled my expectations,” EDH Manager Jim Bazor said. “He stepped right in there and proved he could do it. He led us in hitting and played wherever I needed him. Joe’s biggest strength is that he doesn’t let stuff affect him. He’s got a short memory, and he learns from his mistakes. He just puts it all out there.”
