Diehl siblings busy at league championship swim meetBy: Staff Report
The Diehl siblings had a busy weekend at the Suburban Swim League championships.
Pierson, 10, and MacKenzie, 14, represented the Broadstone Barracudas at the meet at Sierra College in Rocklin featuring nearly 700 participants from eight teams from the Sacramento area. The brother-sister duo combined for 10, top-11 finishes in individual events.
Pierson, the second-highest point scorer in the boys’ 9-10 age group, won the 50-yard freestyle. He also placed third in the 100-yard individual medley, fifth in the 25-yard butterfly, seventh in the 25-yard backstroke and 11th in the 25-yard breast stroke. Pierson entered the meet seeded 15th in the backstroke and moved up eight spots.
Pierson swam on the 100-yard medley and 200-yard free relay teams, which both placed second.
MacKenzie’s best finish in the 13-14 girls’ division came in the 50-yard breast stroke, where she placed fourth. MacKenzie placed fifth in the 50-yard back, sixth in the 100-yard IM, ninth in the 50-yard butterfly and 10th in the 50-yard free.
MacKenzie also swam on the second-place 200-yard freestyle team and the third-place 200-yard medley team.
