Oak Ridge High sophomore Kaden West won the USA Freestyle State Wrestling Championship last week in the Junior, 195-pound weight class.

West pinned Poway senior Nathan Tausch in the finals, who was a state finalist at this year’s CIF state wrestling championships. West is the first Oak Ridge wrestler to win a state championship, and he’s got two more high school wrestling seasons to go.

“Kaden is capable of anything,” Oak Ridge wrestling coach Casey Rhyan said. “He’s capable of beating anyone in the state. He’s a very dangerous, exciting wrestler that can do things most wrestlers his size can’t. I’ve never coached an upper weight wrestler that is as athletic and moves like he can. It’s going to be fun watching him these next couple of years.”
