Because of quick response, the Folsom Fire Department contained a 20-acre grass fire off White Rock Road between Prairie City Road and E. Bidwell Street today, Aug. 29.

Folsom Fire Battalion Chief Chris Fletchall said he was the first to arrive on scene two minutes after the call came in around 10:15 a.m.

The Folsom Police Department immediately sent out a Nixle asking motorists to avoid White Rock Road for an undetermined amount of time due to the fire.

After 45 minutes of battling the fire, with the help of Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department and the El Dorado Hills Fire Department, the fire was contained and the road reopened.

Fletchall said while there is construction in the area, no structures were threatened.

"With a quick response by Folsom firefighters, the fire was contained," he said. "If it was a windy day it could have been much worse."

Fletchall said eight engines, three chief officers, one dozer and one helicopter responded to the grass fire accumulating nearly 30 personnel on scene.

The cause of the grass fire is unknown and is currently under investigation.

No further information has been released at this time.
