Folsom woman charged for embezzling medical equipmentBy: Rachel Zirin, Senior Reporter
Roseville Police arrested a Folsom woman on charges of grand theft and conspiracy to commit a crime Friday afternoon, Aug. 10.
The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Elizabeth Shaw, of Folsom, was arrested in Folsom on charges that she conspired to steal and sell medical equipment, said Rob Baquera, Roseville Police Department Public Information Officer.
Investigators believe that she worked in coordination with a family member to carry out the criminal acts. The family member was formally employed by Sutter Roseville Medical Center, where they allegedly stole equipment from the employer, then Shaw would sell the items on eBay.
“There were several items at a variety of costs,” Baquera said. “The total loss is about $100,000 or more.
The family member has not been arrested, but has been issued a Notice to Appear before a Placer County judge. It’s unknown the length of time they conspired to steal and sell the equipment, officials said.
Roseville Police investigators were initially tipped off to these crimes by the Sutter Health Department of Protective Services team, who also conducted an extensive investigation.
Roseville Police Department is asking anyone who may have more information about these charges, or possible medical equipment sales from Shaw, to please contact investigators at the Roseville Police Department at 916-774-5000.
