For two days only, the 24th annual Global Leadership Summit will return to Lakeside Church in Folsom Thursday, Aug. 9, and Friday, Aug. 10, as one of more than 600 screening sites to hear from leaders throughout North America.

Presented by the Willow Creek Association, the local presentation of the summit allows attendees to partake in the teachings of internationally renowned leaders, such as world-class CEOs, professors, pastors and best-selling authors, while networking with local leaders, said Lakeside Church Pastor Brad Franklin.

The summit started more than 20 years ago in the Willow Creek Community Church in Chicago, said Pastor Brad Franklin of Lakeside Church.

“The idea was to create a training session for leaders in their church and other churches. As it has gone on, the theory was as churcharian leaders, they started bringing in other leaders to the point where some of the best leaders of the years came to speak,” Franklin said.

Global Leadership Summit organizers say the event seeks to drive transformation with fresh, actionable insight from a diverse faculty, who challenge leaders to maximize their influence.

Simulcast live by satellite in high-definition to more than 600 sites in North America, the summit also will go global to 135 countries in 60 languages in the fall, reaching an estimated 445,000 business, community and church leaders.

Faculty members offer uniquely different perspectives, enabling participants to challenge their learning. Each member of the faculty is selected for their expertise, proven success and innovative approaches in non-profit, government, education and faith-based sectors.

The 15 members of the 2018 faculty include Angela Ahrendts, senior vice president of retail at Apple; Simon Sinek, best-selling author and founder of Start With Why; Craig Groeschel, co-founder and senior pastor at Life.Church; T.D. Jakes, founder and senior pastor at The Potter’s House; Danny Meyer, restaurateur and Time Magazine’s “100 Most Influential People;” and Carla Harris, vice chairman, managing director and senior client advisor at Morgan Stanley.

These diverse speakers will deliver a unique blend of vision, inspiration and practical skills anyone can immediately apply.

“They will talk about everything from personal self-leadership; managing self, time and attitudes; to organizational structure, management and performance at work,” Franklin said. “Guests should expect the highest caliber of leadership in one spot. To gather them all in one spot is remarkable. Guests will be challenged on how they lead their department or organization. Everyone who comes will find something for their area and think, ‘That was helpful.’”

Franklin said the church’s theory is if you have influence in anyone else’s life, then it is probably beneficial.

“If you are a little league coach, manager at Intel or a sergeant at the prison, there will be something beneficial for everyone,” he said. “If you have the chance to be influential in someone else’s life and be able to benefit from it, why wouldn’t you?”

Franklin said some of the best leadership he has learned has been from the summit.

“During his last year in office, Bill Clinton was a speaker. He was asked how he leads, and while not everyone agreed with him, there was still something to learn from it,” Franklin said.

Of attendees who attended The Global Leadership Summit in consecutive years, 81 percent cited concrete ways their supervisor has become a better leader because of the summit, and 83 percent believe improved teamwork has increased productivity, teamwork and job satisfaction.

Franklin said they have topped out with attendance in past years so the sooner you register the better.

“You will hear things that challenge you, but also inspire you,” Franklin said. “You will not only get practical leadership practices, but how to apply them.”
