Folsom’s Emilee Hoffman is the 118th Women’s Western Amateur Golf Champion in a tournament held June 24-28 in Romeoville, Illinois at the Mistwood Golf Club just outside of Chicago.
Hoffman, a graduate of Vista del Lago, turned in a dominating performance. In the stroke play qualifying portion of the event to determine seeding for the match play, Hoffman blitzed the field posting 65-70 (-9) to enter match play as the No. 1 seed. Her first round 65 (-7) tied the course record at the host site Mistwood Golf Club course.
In match play, Hoffman ran the table, winning all five matches spanning 93 holes over three days. In the morning 18-hole match of the 36-hole championship final, Hoffman shot her second 65 of the week to take a sizable lead at the halfway point then closed out the match with back-to-back birdies on the 27th and 28th holes to win the match 8 and 7 and claim the championship. Her name will now be engraved on the perpetual trophy alongside other past champions of the event including major champions on the LPGA tour like Cristie Kerr, Ariya Jutanugarn, Nancy Lopez and Stacey Lewis.
The Woman’s Western Amateur is one of the oldest women’s golf tournaments in the United States having been played since 1901.
