Vintage FolsomBy: Courtesy Folsom Train Museum/Bancroft Library collection
Pictured is an early image of the Folsom Railroad Grounds. The railroad grounds were the commercial center of Folsom in the early days. The Sacramento Valley Railroad built large construction and repair shops along Sutter Street, which are pictured on the left along with passenger and freight depots. People would rent space for freight storage and other businesses. A locomotive is pictured facing west on the turntable at the center of the image, ready to return to Sacramento. Folsom’s Chinatown is visible in the upper right.
This image and others can be viewed at the Folsom Train Museum. To learn more about the history of Folsom’s railroad, visit the Folsom Railroad Museum at 198 Wool Street. The museum is open Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. A $2 donation is suggested per admission.
