Folsom Lake College student Cody Jackson a national award winner

Folsom Lake College student Cody Jackson has been selected as a 2012 Coca-Cola Silver Scholar, based on scores earned in the All-USA Community College Academic Team competition, for which more than 1,700 applications were received this year. The program is sponsored by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and is administered by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. As a Coca-Cola Silver Scholar, Jackson will receive a $1,250 scholarship provided by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and a Silver medallion at a special recognition event. He was also listed in the April 23 issue of USA TODAY featuring the Coca-Cola New Century and Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Scholars. A resident of Placerville, Jackson was also recently selected for the prestigious All-California Academic Team. Cody and fellow Folsom Lake College student Katie Schneider were recognized at an awards luncheon on March 7 at the Sheraton Grand in Sacramento. This award recognizes Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) members for their exceptional academic performance. PTK is the international honor society for community college students. Cody Jackson is a Computer Science major at FLC with a 4.0 GPA. He will graduate with an Associate?s degree this spring and plans to transfer to a four-year college in the fall. He began his local studies while still in high school. His goal is to attain a Master?s degree in preparation for a career in UNIX administration, followed by teaching computer science courses at a community college or university. Jackson works at the computer lab at FLC?s El Dorado Center as a student helper and IT assistant. He often tutors his fellow students in computer science and math-related subjects, also volunteering as a webmaster and IT consultant in the community. In his free time, he plays electric blues guitar and swing clarinet, also occasionally indulging his artistic side in watercolor illustration, science-fiction writing, and 3D modeling. A college of the Los Rios Community College District and one of California?s 112 Community Colleges, Folsom Lake College serves approximately 9,000 students at the main Folsom campus, El Dorado Center, and Rancho Cordova Center.
