If Rodeocross doesn’t sound familiar to you, check it out Saturday at Dan Russell Arena on Stafford Street in Folsom. The Folsom “Rodeocross” Cyclocross Series is a bike racing series that has races on Dec. 19, Jan. 10 and Jan. 30. Cyclocross, in its simplest form, is off-road racing events on a road bike with knobby tires. The races requires competitors to dismount their bikes at times to get around or over hay bales, steep run-ups, stairs or other wooden barriers. “If we get 50 people I’d be happy and if we got 100 I’d be really happy,” Event Director Brian Joder said of Saturday’s races, which begin at 10 a.m. “We got started late and only have three races this year. Next year we’ll probably have twice as many and get started in October.” The Rodeocross series doesn’t require a rider to have a cyclocross bike to participate. Anyone can show up with any bike and compete. The course features a 1,000-foot section outside the arena in a wooded area Joder is calling Sherwood Forest. To participate in a race, the cost is $25 if you pre-register, $30 for walk-ups and $10 for juniors. Walk-up registration and check-in begins at 9 a.m., as does practices. Helmets are required. The series also offers mid-week practice sessions and practice races to be held under the lights on Dec. 30, Jan 6. and Jan. 27. Cost is $20 to practice first time and $15 after that. For juniors, who is riders 14-and-under, the cost is $10. For more information visit bicyclingevents.com.
