“It’s kind of like a big smile with a gap in the teeth”, Says Todd Lowell, Chairman for the Rocklin Area Chamber of Commerce about Rocklin's downtown.
Why has there been no effort for the past 20 years by our long term incumbents - Mayor Storey and Vice Mayor Peter Hill? Why has this city council been able to approve strip mall after strip mall and one housing development after another and not think about bringing to life Rocklin's historic downtown the heart and soul of our city?
Let's get rid of the 'Old Guard' and put some life into our city. Vote out the incumbents - Vote for Angela Torrens on November 4th and bring new vision to our city.

The incumbents have been too busy courting and schmoozing with developers to get those up-front, one-time shot in the arm, make-us-look-good fees. The collapse comes later, but they'll have moved on to bigger pickings and leave the mess for Rocklin citizens to deal with.
How many times are we going to be forced to see this. You have put it on every week or so. The answer to your question about when the downtown will flourish is when property owners think they can make a profit from building. Now is not the time. It has been more profitable to go to the areas near the freeways. Get some business sense. Or are you suggesting we do the 'socialist' thing and have the government own the downtown?
Ahhhh.....redundancy or accuracy....which offends you?
So, you're saying there is approximately a 40 year spread* where the business climate has not/will not been favorable enough to allow for development of a downtown in Rocklin?
Hmmmmm. Interesting economic theory. Sounds a little too 'bearish' and a bit like "Econ -101"
Other towns and citiies don't have this problem. Look at Lincoln! Even in the midst of their building boom, they developed a downtown.
Check out some of the redevelopment funds available through HUD and others. You might be surprised.
*Redevelopment agency formed in 1988 and buildout planned for 2020!!!! Sounds like a " Saturday Night Live " joke!!
I have lived in Rocklin for nearly a decade. In that short time I have witness our City Counsel turn this place into a clone of Elk Grove. However, I am not so sure a "downtown" will ever work. I hate to say it, but it is like making a silk purse out of a sows ear. Where exactly would "downtown" be located?
