City Council Candidate Profile: Ernie Sheldon
Seeking a Folsom City Council seat in November is long-time resident Ernie Sheldon. Sheldon, 73, currently is chairman of the city’s Parks and Recreation Commission and has served on the parks board for 20 years. He is a retired career member of the U.S. Air Force. “Since I’ve been here – 23 years – I’ve also served as a planning commissioner and a library commissioner,” Sheldon said. “I know how city government works. I ‘m acquainted with budgets. That’s what I bring to the plate.” Sheldon holds a master’s degree in management from the University of Nebraska. During a 32-year career in the Air Force, he served as a personnel officer and a computer designer. “I feel I’ve done some good for Folsom,” Sheldon said. “When I came in, we had three parks. Now, we have about 45. The City Council has helped a lot.” Even with its notable amenities, however, Folsom probably will wind up squeezing in at least a few more, according to Sheldon. “Are we done yet? We’re not done,” he said. “This is a very positive town.” Sheldon also is executive director of the non-profit Folsom Athletic Association, an advocate for improved recreational programs in the city. “The main issue is to maintain the quality of life,” he said. “That’s what I do. Parks are integral, a staple, like churches and service organizations. It’s all part of the quality of life. I think I’m equal to the task.”

GO ERNIE! Thanks for running. We need a candidate on our side. Everyone else seems to be giving up the farm to special interest groups. With South of 50 development looming, we need someone who's looking out for our interests, not developers, unions and big business.
