Eagles defeat Granite Bay in four games
by Matt Long

A solid win over Granite Bay Tuesday night improved Vista del Lago’s varsity girls’ volleyball team’s record to 5-1.

The young Eagles are off to a solid start and that was apparent with their performance against the Grizzlies. Vista won the match in four games, dropping only the second game on their way to a 25-17, 22-25, 25-20 and 25-15 victory.

“I still feel like we’re a young team even though we had our first graduating class last year,” Vista coach Patrick Sanders said. “We start four or five sophomores depending on the lineup and we’re still experiencing our ups and downs. We’re looking forward to playing with more consistency as the season progresses.”

The Eagles won the first game fairly easily, 25-17, but couldn’t maintain that consistent play that Sanders is looking for and lost the second. The Eagles, showing maturing beyond their years, came right back and won a tight third game, 25-20 before coasting to a 25-15 win in the fourth game.

“We came back and won the third game after losing the second and then finished the match with a high level of enthusiasm and that was good,” Sanders said. “Jordan Cryderman, our libero, played very well. She had a ton of digs and also handled the serve/receive really well.”
