Jimmie Eugene Steele was arrested by Placer County sheriff’s deputies at his home in Lincoln.

Bail has been set at $2 million for a 67-year-old Placer County man charged with having sex with a child under 10.

Jimmie Eugene Steele was arrested last week by Placer County sheriff’s deputies and remains in custody at the county jail in North Auburn with bail set at $2 million, according to Sheriff’s Office information Thursday.

Steele was arrested at his home in Lincoln, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

“His arrest is in connection with his inappropriate contact with a 10-year-old and a 14-year-old over the course of the last six years,” Lt. Jeff Ausnow said.

Ausnow said no other information was being released about the two to protect their identities.

Information on where any possible crimes were committed was not available Thursday from authorities.

Steele has been charged with a felony count of having sex with a child age 10 or younger. A conviction carries a prison term of from 25 years to life. Bail was set at $2 million because of the age of the young age of the victims, Ausnow said.

Steele is scheduled to make his next appearance in court Wednesday in North Auburn.

He is also charged with felony counts of sexual penetration against the victim’s will, lewd or lascivious acts, and sex with a minor.

Court records on the Steele case were not available to the public Thursday.
