More than 100 turned out for the Telegraph’s inaugural Best of the Best party Wednesday evening at Lake Bowl in Folsom.

While the Telegraph has held a Best of the Best contest for more than a decade, this was the first time the paper ever offered a celebration to go along with the awards.

“This is great,” said Sara Henderson, of Folsom City Ink. The business won Best Tattoo Shop. “This is such a great way to boost small businesses.”

Mike Larg, who owns Periwinkle Gifts with his wife Susan, agreed.

“This was a great turnout,” Larg said. His shop won Best Gift Shop. “This was really nice.”

Folsom Lake Bowl Bar Manager Kevin Kindlespire said the business was proud to host the event. He also claimed the Best Bartender title.

“I was shocked that I won,” Kindlespire said. “It’s very flattering. I mean, there is so much competition with so many great bars and friendly bartenders in Folsom. It is such an honor.”

The bar and casino, in addition to the bowling alley, have undergone major renovations. Lake Bowl is also celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

Henderson said she was impressed by the renovations.

“I think it’s more upbeat and comfortable,” Henderson said. “I love the patio.”

Genie Cobb-Hamilton said she was surprised at the turnout, considering it’s the first party. She’s worked for Folsom Veterinary Hospital for more than 30 years. The hospital took the Best Veterinarian title.

“It’s nice to see so many old Folsom people here,” she said. “This is a way to get to meet other business people in a setting outside the Chamber of Commerce functions. It’s just another way to (network).”

Enid Baldock, of Folsom, showed up to help honor the winners.

“It’s a great idea to have a party and get the community together to support the businesses,” Baldock said.

Telegraph Managing Editor Don Chaddock acted as the master of ceremonies for the evening, reading the list of winners and handing out certificates with the assistance of advertising representatives Deb Campbell and Jessica Armour.

“We wanted this to be fun and not too stuffy,” Chaddock said. “The good folks over at Lake Bowl did an excellent job.”
