Folsom wins Mark Fuller Invitational
Four Folsom High wrestlers won their weight class, as the Bulldogs finished first in the Mark Fuller Invitational held Saturday at Lincoln High School. Folsom had 12 wrestlers compete in the tournament, five of which advanced to the finals. Connor Pollock (103), Eric Dowd (119), Sam Morgan (125) and Dillon Fader (171) won titles, while Matt Parker (130) took second. Also placing for the Bulldogs were Brett Adcock (145, third), Alex Hurlimann (160, fourth), Tyler Rios (112, fifth), Alex Wood (189, fifth), Ryan Jensen (140, sixth) and Jordan Alleva (215, sixth). Pollock had a great day for the Bulldogs, dominating the competition all the way to the finals where he worked up an 11-0 lead before closing out the bout with a pin. He was named the tournament’s lightweight most outstanding wrestler. Dowd dominated Danny Diaz of Jesuit in the finals at 119, winning 12-1 to claim his second tournament of the season. Morgan won his first tournament of the year, earning a 10-2 major decision victory in the final. At 171, Fader was equally impressive as Pollock, winning all three of his matches by pin. “I was happy to see Dillon execute what we had been working on lately and he wrestled with confidence,” Folsom coach Mike Collier said. Parker wrestled well to get to the finals at 130, but lost once there, 6-0. Wrestling his first tournament at 145 pounds, Adcock pulled out a 3-2 win in the finals to place third. Rios finished off his tournament at 112 by avenging an earlier loss with a pin of his opponent to place fifth. Alleva entered the tournament seeded eighth at 215, so he improved his seed by two by placing sixth. “For Hurlimann, Wood and Alleva, they’re all sophomores going up against seniors most of the time in the upperweights,” Collier said. “They’re improving and their time will come, but they have to be patient and continue to work hard in practice.” Collier was not only pleased with his wrestlers individually, but he was happy that the team was able to win the tournament. “Anytime you can go out and win a tournament that’s a great showing,” Collier said. “This will give our kids confidence as we head into the stretch run of our season. This was not the toughest tournament on our schedule, but they got to show why they’re one of the top teams in the area. Some wrestlers got their first championship and other newcomers to the lineup earned their first varsity medal.” Folsom’s four female wrestlers also competed at the Northern California Regionals over the weekend. Tianna Camous placed fourth, while Rachel Glover finished one win shy of the medal round. Justine Angello and Katelyn Rosenbauer also competed in the tournament. The junior varsity team also had a good weekend, as all nine individuals competing at the Foothill Tournament earned medals. Zyk Idrogo (121), Tony Hernandez (125) and Tevenn Lewis (189) all won their respective weight classes with 4-0 records. Jay Coburn, wrestling at 121 pounds, placed third, while Cameron Cox finished fourth at 130. Cameron Pick (112), Devon Ford (121) and Carter Moore (171) all placed fifth, while Nick Owen (112) placed sixth. Folsom’s only home dual meet is today against Monterey Trail. Sutter and Folsom Middle Schools will wrestle at 4 p.m. with Folsom High celebrating senior night beginning at 6 p.m. followed by the dual match.
