The number of participants and amount of funds raised may be lower this year, but the Kick It for Tom Handy Soccer Clinic was still a smashing success no matter what the numbers show.

The clinic, organized by Folsom resident Maria Totushek and put on by youth soccer players in Folsom, helped raise money for Handy, another Folsom resident who’s battling throat cancer.

“We had about 150 kids last year for the Kick It For Kindra clinic and this year we had about 100, but that’s OK because it’s been an absolute blast,” Totushek said. “Tom’s been at almost every clinic and he sees the support for him and has been incredibly touched by it.”

One thing that Totushek is proud of is the youth soccer players who put on the six clinics for the kids.

“We’ve had more and more trainers come out for each session,” Totushek said. “When these kids hear about this they just want to do it and they have a lot of fun. I think it says something about this community that these kids want to help out.”

More than 40 youth soccer players helped out with the clinic.
