Younger Folsom teams place well at league cross country meet

Folsom High’s varsity cross country teams failed to crack the top-three finishing spots at the league meet on Wednesday at Granite Regional Park, but the freshman-sophomore teams did. The freshman-sophomore girls scored 24 points to finish well in front of St. Francis. The Lady Bulldogs had the top-three finishers and placed all five scorers in the top-10. Muna Alhamad, Sarah Anderson and Katie Bock took the top three spots in 13:54, 14:05 and 14:31, respectively. Lindsey Bailey ran eighth in 15:33, while Michelle Hanson placed 10th, eight seconds after Bailey. The fresh-soph boys placed third with 72 points, trailing winner Oak Ridge and Jesuit with Sheldon finishing one-point behind. Logan Kohne was the top Folsom finisher, as he ran fifth in 12:41, only four seconds out of second place. John Kretschmann posted a top-10 finish by placing ninth in 13:02. Gregory Aitken ended up 16th in 13:16, followed by Travis Vo (21st, 13:32) and Matthew Hopper (23rd, 13:34). Vivian Lam had a strong run for the varsity girls, as she posted a time of 19:09, good enough to place her tenth. Jennifer Rees (57th, 24:56), Kaeti Park (27:34), Erin Johl (72nd, 28:00) and Taylor Pantiga (74th, 28:48) rounded out the scorers. Despite placing four runners in the top-20, the best Folsom’s varsity boys’ could finish was fourth, as strong teams from Oak Ridge, Jesuit and Pleasant Grove finished ahead of them. Sam Scheuer led Folsom by placing fourth in 16:18 with teammates Vinnie Morin (10th, 16:40) and Jacob Goodwin (12th, 16:43) not far behind. Jonathan Barrows (20th, 17:17) and Tim Scott (37th, 18:10) rounded out the scorers.
