A young United varsity lacrosse squad was edged out in the last 50 seconds in a 14-12 loss to Yuba City. Junior Ben Sheskier led scoring with five goals and one assist. Sophomores Jeremy Sommer followed with two goals and three assists and Collin Whitney scored twice. Chad Baciocco finished with a goal three assists. Two seniors helped the team and played their season finale with Lucas Santos-Cortez commanding the faceoff position and earning two goals and an assist and Ceril Fangon leading the defense. Junior Austin Ibanez continued to be a force as his speed and tenacity earned him an assist. Junior defenseman Francis Wilson was thrust in the goalie position but played like a veteran stopping numerous shots at goal. The United high school girls varsity, also a young team, continued to progress, earning a 7-7 tie against the higher seated Chico Rebels, but falling to the undefeated Redding Wildfire 14-6. "The girls have made a tremendous improvement this season, pulling off a tie with Chico and putting up a good fight against the undefeated Redding team," coach Becca Hintz said. ?Team MVPs from this weekend's games were Amanda Sultan and Paige Passantino. Both showed amazing drive, leadership and teamwork. The success of this season shows great potential for the growth of the program in years to come.? The United JV team continued its win streak, edging out Yuba City 5-4 at home. The JV team is seeded number two in the Northern California Junior Lacrosse Association and is headed to playoffs. This past week they defeated the Orangevale Rams, 14-5 and the Elk Grove Gladiators, 15-6. The U11 Cardinals won back-to-back road games against Santa Rosa, winning 12-2 and 12-4. Marcus Davis and James Ridge earned the game balls for the team.
