Justin Woody scored 26 points, 18 coming on 3-pointers, in leading Folsom to a 65-38 victory over Vista del Lago on Thursday. The Bulldogs will play the Lincoln of Stockton/Del Campo winner at 7 p.m. on Friday at home in the second round of the 24th annual Folsom Bulldog Invitational. Vista will play the losing team at 5:30 p.m. The Eagles hung with Folsom in the first quarter, coming as close as two points to the lead before Folsom led by five at the end of the quarter, 19-14. Brooks Lambertson scored nine of his 11 points in the first quarter, all on three-pointers, to keep his team in the game. The Bulldogs, however, opened up a 33-21 lead at halftime by outscoring Vista 14-7 in the second quarter, as Woody equaled Vista’s output for the quarter with seven. Drew Whitney also hit a three late in the half to give the Bulldogs a boost heading into halftime. A strong defensive effort in the third quarter in which Folsom outscored Vista 13-7 put the game away, as the Eagles had trouble scoring throughout the night. “I thought we had great energy from the get-go,” Folsom coach Frank Horwath said. “We had a lot of excitement in the gym from the student body and that made a huge difference. Justin had a good game and in many respects, as he goes we go. When he hits the outside shot like he did tonight, that opens it up inside for us with Rich (Olpin) and the others. When Justin takes care of the ball, we’re very effective.” Lambertson and Patrick Lowman each scored 11 points for the Eagles, who fell to 0-6 on the season. “It’s been an up and down start for us, but the effort is there,” Vista coach Matt von Tillow said. “We’re fighting through youth and a lack of experience at the varsity level, but we’re getting better with each game. I thought Jake Duenkel battled hard and Brooks shot the ball well. He’s beginning to find his rhythm.”
