For the second year in row, Vista del Lago’s varsity wrestling team won the Vista Eagle Invitational.

Vista scored 170 points to win the 20-team tournament, scoring 21.5 more points than runner-up Nevada Union.

Freshman Dalton Boyer (106) and sophomore Mason Wright (132) won their respective weight classes, two of 11 placewinners for the Eagles.  Senior Troy Grossi (152) and sophomore Ben Johnson (160) also reached the finals but finished in second place.  Seniors Michael Gray (138), Jacob Sahagun (170) and Ian Berklacich (182) placed fourth, as did junior Evan Shelley (145). Freshman Trace Fredericks placed fifth at 113, while sixth-place finishers included sophomore Antonio Mulqueeny (120) and freshman Ney  Vencer (132).

"It was a great way to start the season,” Vista coach Frank Richmond said. “This is our toughest team yet and we plan to continue putting in the hard work needed to reach our goals. Dalton Boyer and Mason Wright had great performances, each winning the tournament at their weight classes with falls in the final."

The Eagles will be in action again Wednesday in their first League dual of the year at Union Mine.
