Vista del Lago’s varsity girls’ volleyball team completed a roller coaster regular season with a 22-11 record.

The two-time defending Sac-Joaquin Division III champions open the playoffs seeded No. 2 in Division III with Oakmont as the top seed. Vista plays host to Tuesday’s Christian Brothers/Livingston winner at 7 p.m. on Thursday. The Falcons (22-12), seeded seventh, is the team that Vista beat last year to win the section championship.

“If the seedings for playoffs hold true, we will wind up playing Christian Brothers,” Vista coach Patrick Sanders said. “They are a fantastic program and a tough draw for any team.  They easily could have been seeded second themselves.  We really need to play well to make it past them and into the semifinal round.  Our girls definitely have the potential to get the job done, but need to play with confidence and stay focused for the entire match.”

If the Eagles can win Thursday, the semifinals will be held Tuesday with a home game against River Valley (third seed) or Placer (sixth seed) most likely. Along with Oakmont, Rosemont (fourth seed) and Rio Americano (fifth seed) are the top teams on the other side of the bracket.

The Eagles closed out the regular season with a 25-7, 25-16 and 25-6 win over Galt on Oct. 30. It was the final regular season home game for the team’s six seniors: Caroline Sipiora, Kelsey Sampson, Brittany Boerstra, Kendall Moore, Hallie Robertson and Jordan Cryderman.

“All six of our seniors have played a pivotal role in the success of the team this season,” Sanders said. “From their leadership to their unwavering character, they have set the bar high for those that will follow in their footsteps.”
